April Showers

March 24, 2026

Be the Colour; Not the Cloud

There’s something about April. The light shifts, the days stretch out just a little longer and then, without warning, the rain arrives. And being British we just can’t not mention it. Not only are we going to mention it but we’re going to go all out and write a blog about it but there will be no complaining here. Because what if we stopped seeing those showers as an inconvenience—and started seeing them as an opportunity?

Because here’s the thing: grey skies don’t have to mean a grey mood. Our gardens and countryside love it and so can we.

An umbrella isn’t just practical. It’s a statement. It’s one of the few accessories that quite literally sits above everything else you’re wearing framing your look, influencing how you feel, and quietly telling the world something about you before you’ve even said a word. If you think you’ve heard that before it’s because we are always saying it about your style, your outfit.

An umbrella is absolutely a part of your outfit too. And when that umbrella is bright, joyful, and intentionally chosen? It changes everything.

The Psychology of Colour (Even in the Rain)

We all know colour affects how we feel—it's at the heart of everything we do in styling. But in gloomy weather, its impact is amplified. When the world feels muted, a pop of colour doesn’t just stand out it lifts.

A vibrant umbrella in sunshine yellow, coral, cobalt, or fuchsia acts like a little mood beacon. It draws the eye, sparks energy, and perhaps most importantly, shifts your mindset. You’re no longer bracing against the weather; you’re stepping into it with intention. As an added bonus it can change the mindset of those around you too.

You become the colour in the landscape. Ever looked at a sea of black umbrellas and spotted one red one? It can change your whole outlook, literally.

And that’s powerful.

Style From Head to Toe (Literally)

We often think about coats, boots, and layers when dressing for rain—but the umbrella is the finishing touch that pulls it all together.

Imagine this:

  • A soft summer palette outfit paired with a dusky rose or powder blue umbrella.
  • A bold winter palette brought to life with a striking emerald or true red.
  • An autumn look elevated with rich rust, olive, or warm teal overhead.
  • A bright spring look topped off with a lime, red or aqua brolly.

Suddenly, your outfit doesn’t stop at your shoulders—it continues upward, creating a cohesive, considered look from head to toe.

This is where styling becomes storytelling.

Intentional Dressing, Whatever the Weather

There’s a quiet confidence in choosing beauty even on the most practical of days. Reaching for a thoughtfully selected umbrella instead of a last-minute, black, slightly-broken one at the back of the cupboard says something about how you approach your style and your life.

It says:
“I care about how I feel.”
“I notice the details.”
“I’m not waiting for perfect conditions to show up as myself.”

And that’s exactly the energy we want to carry into a new season.

April Showers, Reimagined

So yes, April brings showers. That’s not changing anytime soon.

But what can change is how we meet them.

Instead of shrinking into the background, we can step forward. We can choose colour. We can co-ordinate. We can bring a little joy not just to ourselves, but to everyone who catches a glimpse of us walking down the street under a canopy of something beautiful.

Because style isn’t just about being seen, it’s about how you feel.

And sometimes, all it takes is the right umbrella.

The Cape Is Back (And It’s More Wearable Than Ever)
By Jo Gaffney December 22, 2025
When it comes to refreshing your wardrobe, your first instinct might be to handle it all yourself. After all, who knows your clothes better than you? But here’s the truth: editing your wardrobe solo can be overwhelming, time-consuming, and — let's be honest — emotionally draining. That’s where working with a stylist can be a total game changer. We have been there too. As stylists ourselves we value the benefit of a second opinion when it comes to separating the emotion from the garment.

The short answer? Yes! But wait for it, there’s more to it than that! Shopping sustainably requires you to buy only things you know you will wear so let’s make sure you find the right yellow for you. Buying the wrong tone might leave you looking a tad under the weather and less likely to wear your new purchase again and again.
